In this two-day workshop students are brought back to the basics of figure drawing. As we construct the image from larger masses before putting in the detailed forms, students can focus on more accurate proportion, gesture and arrangement of shapes. These larger masses are then sculpted and continually refined until the linear drawing is complete -- finishing the 'block-in'. In practice, this is the point where one has completed the drawing and transitions either to tonal form modelling, or transferring to canvas to be painted.

Day 1 will consist of short poses (approximately 20 minutes each) where we rehearse the processes involved in the block-in, what information is crucial at any given stage and what can be 'filtered' out for closer observation at a later time. This repetition of drawing, erasing & restarting proves beneficial for building confidence in one's abilities.

Day 2 we will maintain the same pose for the full day to take the block-in to more of a finish - going through several stages/refinements along the way as students work on the design of their drawings.
