The Masters Academy Program is dedicated to the student committed to becoming a professional realist painter.
Each academic year is broken into three equal terms of 13 weeks each. Operating Monday to Friday (9-5), we get the most out of our students’ abilities by working efficiently on tailored projects each day – increasing the difficulty prescribed based on each student’s level of proficiency, until the desired level of mastery is achieved.
Working along with, and being supervised by the principal artist(s) in the studio, Masters Academy students at The Barnes Atelier benefit from a wide range of technical and professional influences – preparing them for life as a realist artist.
The first thing we introduce to students at the beginning of their study is the idea of excellence in their work. From the approach, to the execution and refined finish, students learn how to ‘construct’ an image.
The first half of the painting program will be dedicated to the transition from drawing to painting by working with the grisaille(monochrome) palette.
Students may apply to continue working in the studio on a series of tailored projects and independent works, while they perfect their skills under the watchful eye of the principle artists.
